Island Woman is looking for new writers and contributors.
The target audience for Island Woman has been identified as all women on Vancouver Island. Our vision is evolving and will undoubtedly change and become refined we receive comments, and gauge reaction and demand for different types of information.
One of the challenges will be to understand the various subsets of our broad audience in order to develop a content base that will be of interest to a variety of age groups and address a cross section of interests and issues. We are already covering topics of business, finance, sports, animal health and lifestyles, but are looking for writers to contribute in areas such as health care, child care, beauty, food, travel, fashion … the list is endless.
We are also considering a Guest Column where contributors may submit articles on a “one-time” basis rather than becoming regular columnists. This would provide an opportunity for “occasional authors” to express their views on a particular topic without having to commit to a regular feature. Along this same line is a “Book Club” column where a variety of writers may submit their reviews.
If you think you might be a potential Island Woman author, here are our guidelines:
Island Woman requests that each contributor supply one new article article per month so they can be rotated regularly and ensure the site is always fresh. Once an article is removed from the current page, it will be archived so it will still be accessible to new readers or to those who may have missed it the first time. All regular contributors will have a photo and bio that will be featured on the rotating image that alternates on the home page. The ideal length for each article seems to be between 400 and 500 words, although that is not a hard and fast rule and will certainly vary depending upon the content of each article. We do want to leave readers wanting more so they will keep coming back. Hopefully our authors will soon develop a “following” through their writing.
