Our plans to downsize or “right size” can reflect how well we deal with aging. Older adults often realize they require less space than when their children lived at home. Living in a smaller area, such as moving from a detached house to a condominium or townhouse, can free up time for new activities. While strata fees may seem like an added expense, it’s essential to consider the cost savings of home maintenance.
It’s also wise to think ahead and consider mobility issues before they become problematic.
Reducing living space can be challenging, especially when fitting furniture, belongings, and stored items into smaller areas. It’s crucial to consider your new home’s floor plan and storage space, such as closets and cabinets. Moving can be a stressful experience, especially when it’s urgent. This could be an excellent opportunity to pass on treasured items to others. Consider getting help from someone to help you go through your possessions.
A Google search will provide a wealth of free resources if you’re looking for advice on downsizing. Start early, make a plan, and get help with decluttering and deciding on sentimental items. But, most importantly, stay positive about this new season of life you’re entering!
