The holiday season is with us and it is my passionate desire to share with you a poem that I wrote at this time last year. The holiday season has not always been easy for me. I find myself overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle, the downtown driving and parking, the commercial focus of gift giving frenzy, and the overall assumption that everybody is happy and well prepared for Christmas. Not everybody celebrates Christmas and not everybody feels merry in December, and this is perfectly alright if you ask me.

I prefer the things that are much more simple and wholesome, like kindness, presence and play, and I like to remember them as often as I can, even in the other eleven months of the year. With global matters as they are, it is my deepest wish that we connect with love, peace, joy, compassion, and healing in ourselves as individuals. This will flood the collective consciousness in the better service of humanity. I believe that we are working things out. I see a healthier world forming and we are all a part of the growth and restructuring.

My poem, “Gifts I Want”, explains my feelings best and so I will share it with you now. I urge you to take it in and set intentions of how you can create new gifts for yourself now and in days to come. May you be well and share love, most of all!

Gifts I Want
The only gifts I want
While consumerism and materialism still haunt
Making us grow gaunt
And money taunts
Are free
Brewed within you and me

I yearn to see peace now
And the only way how
Is applied within
Forget about sin
And grow a grin
From forgiveness
We’re all in this mess together
The question is whether
We are willing to see our own face
In the distress
And can we confess
That we can also drape in royal dress
What stress and how I yearn for freedom
That only I begin
I wish for eyes to meet
Right in the street
And smiles to greet
For hearts to fuse
No minds confused
I beg for hands to touch
And hugs so much
Compassion and souls mashing
Feet dashing to help all neighbours
For all to share the fruits of labours

I wish for love
Above all others
That we’d find ourselves
As sisters and brothers
Fathers and mothers
Of all our young
Protectors of our earth and sun

I want for us to have fun
And play, now there’s a good one
I wish that we’d run free
That we’d see through war to unity

Oh goodness me, the holiday season is here it seems
But I’ll still hold onto my dreams
I believe it’s all possible and within our reach
Starting from seeds inside us each

Please consider these gifts that I want
And if maybe you’d want them too
Then we could talk about what to do
But let’s begin with one thing new
What about instead of presents
We all gave one another our presence?

We’re gathered near and I have your ear
So, let’s end here
With love in our hearts
Dreaming of new starts
