There’s something about a crisp, clean men’s button up that makes it a timeless classic in the wardrobe of every well-dressed man. And who’s to say that it can’t be a staple in the wardrobe of a well-dressed woman?
The form of the shoulders, the way the shirt is tapered, and the cut of the garment invokes an undeniable air of masculinity when worn by a man, and yet the contrast when worn by a woman does nothing but draw attention to the femininity of the wearer.
It also adds an element of boldness to your look, telling the world that you are not afraid to defy convention in the search for a killer outfit.
The most obvious way to wear a men’s shirt is, of course, to just wear it normally. Put it on and button it up as you would with any other shirt. When you wear it this way, it’s the styling of the rest of your outfit that pulls everything together and really makes the shirt work.
I like the juxtaposition of the masculine look when it’s played up with very feminine accessories, to give it a laid-back glamour. Usually, men’s shirts tend to be longer and slightly baggier on the female form. To avoid looking sloppy, it’s important to provide enough contrast by highlighting slimmer parts of your body.
You can do this by wearing it over black leggings to show the shape of your legs, paired with black heels to make them appear longer. Loosely cuff the sleeves and add some Zsiska Jewellery and you’ll put any party dress to shame.
Next time you go shopping in the menswear section for the man in your life, multitask and do some shopping for you too! You’ll be pleasantly surprised by some of the great finds you’ll come across, and (bonus!) men’s clothes are often cheaper than women’s clothes.
Borrow from the boys, and you’ll open a whole new world of fashionable options.
