Often I have clients who do not even mention that they hear a ringing in their ears. They want help for their back pain, grief, anxiety, sleep problems, prostate, constipation and other problems and have no idea that Tinnitus is a serious sign that something is wrong and that there is help … the earlier the better.
Years ago, I worked in the area of home support and had just finished my reflexology studies. An 80 year old gentleman told me about ringing of his ear. I was curious as to whether I could help and gave him a little reflexology session. He was my last client and I had the time. The ringing disappeared and he was quite upset that his doctor had not told him about reflexology as a possibly treatment.
Three days later, my supervisor called and wanted to know whether I had given this client a reflexology session. I said ‘yes’ and found out that she had seen him two days after the session. He was still quite excited because he had gone a day and a half without the ringing in his ear. I was never sent to this gentleman again. Obviously his doctor did not know about how effective reflexology can be.
One has to take this ringing seriously because there are two meridians close to the ear. One of them is related to stress and even the medical field is now agreeing that 95% of all our health problems have a stress component.
Ten Secrets to Help Cure Tinnitus is an excellent resource and the use of reflexology is explained in Secret #10 on page 13:
“THE BEST KEPT SECRET: TINNITUS CURE REVEALED AT LAST
A Cure For Tinnitus? It’s as close as Your Hands – and Feet
… It’s based on the assumption that your organs, glands, and nerves are connected to what are called “reflex areas” on the bottom of your feet and the palms of your hands. Each of these so-called reflex areas relate to specific parts of your body. By massaging the areas, you send a surge of stimulation to clear the “congestion” and help restore healthy functions … The beauty of reflexology is that you can perform it on yourself …”
The steps to reduce the symptoms of tinnitus through reflexology are outlined in the link above. I would add that in my view, massaging is sufficient at the very beginning of the ringing but later, I have my doubts. Rather than using the term ‘massage”, I believe it is more accurate to say that the reflexologist applies palpation and pressure on the reflex areas. An added bonus is that it can be quite relaxing as well. The earlier one starts with sessions the better.
