A few days ago I was taking a walk on a beautiful sunny afternoon when I met a lady pruning a potted plant by the sidewalk

I am a wife, a mother and a grandmother; and spent my whole working life as a nurse. I was a "ban the bomber" in London in the sixties and a part of the back to earth movement of the seventies here on Vancouver Island. These experiences have made me who I am. I am me. I am an Island Woman. In retirement I now enjoy even more being an Island Woman.

We had a lovely conversation and I learnt that she was Julia Sage that had just opened a massage therapy practice right here in Chemainus

I was very impressed by her gentle manner  and  her reassuring  approach to her profession.  Welcome to Chemainus Julia.

Best regards,

*********************************************

I graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in 1990, and have since studied numerous assessment and hands-on techniques, many of which I’ve integrated into my practice.

I have had the privilege of working with and learning from people of all ages at widely diverse stages in their lives.

I have a special interest in helping seniors regain balance, strength, mobility and confidence in their bodies.

I love to help my clients discover that much of their pain and discomfort need not be permanent, and can be alleviated through massage therapy and postural corrections.

The combination of massage with Postural Alignment Therapy has added a new dimension to my practice and has allowed a great number of my clients to experience breakthroughs in pain relief and increased mobility.

Postural Alignment Therapy

Our bodies are designed to move, to be in motion. Our musculoskeletal system is designed to work as a unit. When either or both of those things are compromised, dysfunctions can develop which our body must adapt to by way of postural compensations.

In other words, compensations are symptoms of an underlying dysfunction. Barring trauma, congenital or nervous system conditions, chronic pain is very often a symptom of compensation.

Postural Alignment Therapy is a plan of action that rediscovers the body’s design and allows it to work as it was intended to work.

Through a personalized series of gentle exercises and stretches which make certain demands on your body, efficient muscle function and movement patterns can be restored. Once this happens, your underlying dysfunction along with painful joint and muscle compensations, can be resolved.

This work will reduce wear and tear on your joints, and potentially spare you from more invasive measures down the road.

The key to quick and lasting results from Postural Alignment Therapy is compliance with your exercise routine. Even if you only have 20 minutes a day to devote to it, you will feel the benefits.

We’re not trying to change history here…a little goes a long way!

You can find long lasting relief from such things as:
– Decreased strength/function/mobility/balance
– Low, mid, upper back pain
– Shoulder pain
– Stiff & sore neck
– Headaches
– Sciatic pain
– Hip and knee pain
– Ankle/foot dysfunctions
– Bursitis
– Tendonitis

Each session includes exercise instruction and massage therapy. Sessions are covered by extended health insurance, according to each client’s plan. For a 15 minute complimentary consultation, please contact me at 778.230.7524 to book an appointment.

Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is very beneficial for all ages. RMT’s assess and treat physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints of the body, using hands-on techniques which are most suitable for your needs. It reduces stress, anxiety and depression, and it aids in rehabilitation of injuries and chronic conditions such as:

– Low, mid, upper back pain
– Headaches, stiff/sore neck
– Repetitive strain
– Sciatica
– Hip and knee problems
– Shoulder pain
– Ankle/foot dysfunctions, shin splints
– Bursitis, tendonitis
– Pregnancy
– Post-op inflammation

Massage therapy facilitates the postural realignment process by relieving pain and softening the soft tissue for ease of movement. My treatments are largely based on my postural findings, and as such, my focus will be on your underlying dysfunction in order to allow your compensations to resolve. My first priority is to relieve symptomatic pain.

I will work with you to balance your therapeutic needs with your need to unwind and recalibrate. I love using heat, essential oils, and the best meditative music I can find. My hands-on tends to be slow and specific. I hope that I can help you to explore and enhance your mind-body connection and assist you in regaining control of your well-being.
