Is Ice Cream Good For You?

Posted | 1 comment

"What’s for dinner?" has to be one of the most dreaded questions to busy parents and individuals around the world, and Sandra Holomis was one of those people. A devoted Mom to her two children, she maintained that having dinner around the dinner table was an important part of staying connected with her two teenagers. Sandra started her business in 2005 in a church kitchen. In 2008, she moved the business, "What's For Dinner", to the beautiful assembly kitchen in Victoria, British Columbia. Sandra enjoys connecting with people every day and discussing how to put delicious tasting meals on everyone’s dinner table.

July is National Ice Cream month and “Yes” Ice Cream is good for you!

Despite the ingredients; cream, milk, eggs, sugar, and flavorings, it isn’t the worst thing you can eat. Nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and B vitamins can be found in ice cream.

Recently researchers found that when eaten as part of a healthy diet, ice cream can aid weight loss… within moderation. This may be due to ice cream contains calcium, which is needed for fat metabolism, and ice cream satisfies food cravings better than most foods.

This summer, ask a friend out for an ice cream and celebrate one of these national ice cream days:

  • July 7 Strawberry Sundae Day
  • July 17 Peach Ice Cream Day
  • July 20 Ice Cream Soda Day
  • July 21 National Ice Cream Day
  • July 23 Vanilla Ice Cream Day
  • July 25 Hot Fudge Sundae Day

And August is also a great ice cream month:

  • Aug 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Day
  • Aug 10 Banana Split Day
  • Aug 14 Creamsicle Day
  • Aug 18 Soft Ice Cream Day
  • Aug 22 Spumoni Day (Italian Ice Cream)

Here’s a Challenge: How many local ice cream parlors can you visit this summer? Email us at the end of August listing the places you have visited. The one with the most visits will receive a Free dinner from Dinner For One.
